Bruins rally for OT win against Panthers, point streak at 9
The Boston Bruins extended their season-opening point streak to nine games with a 3-2 overtime win against the Florida Panthers at TD Garden on Monday.
Pavel Zacha scored at 3:36 of overtime for the Bruins, who trailed 2-0 after the first period. Brad Marchand and Charlie McAvoy scored in regulation, and Linus Ullmark made 35 saves for the Bruins.
Sergei Bobrovsky made 33 saves for the Panthers, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Bruins' comeback.
The Panthers took a 1-0 lead just 2:09 into the game when Sam Bennett scored on a rebound. Florida doubled its lead at 10:16 of the first period when Aleksander Barkov scored on a power play.
The Bruins came out strong in the second period and cut the lead to 2-1 at 2:37 when Marchand scored on a power play of his own.
McAvoy tied the game at 2-2 with a goal at 13:45 of the second period.
The game remained tied through the rest of regulation and overtime.
In overtime, Zacha took a pass from David Krejci and beat Bobrovsky with a wrist shot to give the Bruins the win.
The Bruins' point streak is the longest in their history to start a season.

Bruins coach Jim Montgomery:
"They looked super fast, we looked super slow and we just wanted to simplify our game (after the first period). Get to the forecheck, try and wear them down in their own end."
Bruins forward Pavel Zacha:
"I was looking if we were going 2-on-1, and kind of on the way there I was looking if there was going to be a chance to pass. But then the [defense] kind of went away, so I was just looking at where it was open in the far side, and I'm happy that I did it low blocker there."
Panthers coach Paul Maurice:
"We had a lot of great chances to win the game in regulation, but we couldn't find the back of the net. We need to be better at finishing our opportunities."
Panthers forward Aleksander Barkov:
"We played a good game, but we made a few mistakes in overtime that cost us. We need to learn from those mistakes and move on."
Analysis:
The Bruins' comeback was a testament to their character and resilience. They were down two goals after the first period, but they didn't give up. They came out strong in the second period and tied the game, and then they won it in overtime.
The Panthers played a good game, but they made a few mistakes in overtime that cost them. They had a few chances to win the game in regulation, but they couldn't find the back of the net.
The Bruins' point streak is impressive, but they know that it's still early in the season. They need to keep playing hard and consistently if they want to maintain their success.
What's next:
The Bruins will host the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday. The Panthers will host the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday.
Additional thoughts:
- The Bruins' power play was clicking on Monday night, going 2-for-4.
- The Bruins' penalty kill was also strong, killing off all three of the Panthers' power plays.
- The Bruins' fourth line was a key factor in their comeback. The line of Oskar Steen, Tomas Nosek, and Curtis Lazar played with a lot of energy and forechecked hard.
- The Panthers' top line of Barkov, Sam Bennett, and Anthony Duclair was dangerous all night. They combined for four points and had several good scoring chances.
- The Panthers' defense struggled to contain the Bruins' forecheck in the second and third periods.
Overall, it was a great game between two of the best teams in the NHL. The Bruins came out on top, but the Panthers showed that they will be a force to be reckoned with this season.
